Trigger Point Injections are used to treat muscle and myofascial pain by injecting a local anesthetic and a steroid directly into a muscle spasm or knot. By numbing the site of pain with the anesthetic and relieving inflammation with the steroid, muscles are able to relax and stretch. If the injection provides complete relief – or no relief – the procedure will not be repeated. If you experience partial, sustained muscle pain relief, a series of injections may be used to provide a greater degree of comfort, enabling you to perform Physical Therapy and daily tasks more freely.
During a Trigger Point Injection, you may be seated or lying down, depending on the area of the injection. The procedure takes only a few minutes to perform. If the trigger point therapy is effective, you will experience nearly instantaneous relief.
You should be able to perform physical therapy and stretching exercises immediately following the procedure. You will be able to return to your normal tasks upon leaving our office. There are very few risks or side effects with Trigger Point Injection therapy, and we discuss them and any concerns you may have prior to treatment.
You don’t have to live with muscle or myofascial pain. Get relief and schedule an appointment at our office in Teaneck today.
